Biography
THE STORY BEHIND THE SONGS
Gerry Arias spent much of his musical life behind the drums. These days, he's telling the stories from the front of the stage.
Raised in Brooklyn, Arias was drawn to music almost before he could walk. He wrote his first song at six, but it was the drums that first carried him into the world of working musicians.
His early band, Voice of the Turtle, formed with Johnny Cuomo and Andy Fox, took him through the independent rock circuit of the 1990s. What followed was a restless musical education in New York's clubs and recording studios, with work spanning rock, Latin music, Irish folk, soul and the experimental underground.
Along the way, Arias recorded with artists including Dina Regine, engineered and produced music for Gallowglass, and performed with an assortment of bands and collaborators.
His groups opened for the Ramones and Sting, while his percussion work brought him onto the stage for select Natalie Merchant performances. From CBGB's and the Knitting Factory to Jones Beach and PNC Bank Arts Center, the rooms grew larger, but his curiosity rarely narrowed.
A later chapter unfolded at Showplace Studios in Dover, New Jersey, where Arias worked as a house drummer in producer Ben Elliott's recording world. It was also during this period that Brother Earth emerged, giving Arias another outlet for songwriting and the unusual experience of singing lead from behind the drum kit.
Then life took him elsewhere—into family, education and a long career in the classroom. The music never stopped, but for years it shared the stage with other responsibilities.
Around 2020, Arias began making his way back to regular live performance.
Sabbados, his experimental duo with drummer Hektor Bee, helped reopen that door. Soon he was performing under his own name, traveling to Ireland and Costa Rica for recording sessions, and building a new catalog with the instincts of a songwriter and the ears of a lifelong recording musician.
The result has been a remarkable second act: UNVAULTED (2025) brought long-shelved recordings into the light; faceless (2026) embraced the intimacy of stripped-down home recording.
Now comes Unincorporated, an eight-song album where folk melodies, punk impulses, unconventional percussion and the rough edges of Americana coexist without asking permission.
It's the work of an artist who has played nearly every role in the room—and discovered that the most interesting one might be his own.
At this point in his career, Gerry Arias isn't starting over. He's bringing everything with him.

Released October 2, 2026, through LP Records, Unincorporated is Gerry Arias's eight-song independent album, exploring Americana, folk rock, punk influences and experimental roots music.
The release is being celebrated with five October performances, culminating on Halloween at Ironbound Farm.
